Dallas Warrant Roundup - Don’t Let It Happen To You

Yesterday morning, 20 Dallas City Marshals hit the streets to locate and arrest people with outstanding arrest warrants related to Class-C misdemeanors such as speeding tickets, parking violations, public intoxication, and other minor offenses.  In the roundup, police successfully arrested more than 30 people and took them to jail.  These people learned the hard way not to ignore tickets related to these minor violations.

At some point in their life, most people are charged with a traffic violation, parking ticket, or some other relatively minor criminal offense.  These increasingly expensive violations start off as an annoyance that can be easily handled.  If, however, a person ignores,  forgets, or otherwise fails to take care of the citation, a warrant may be issued for their arrest.

Once a warrant is issued, the police can arrest the person anytime a police officer has the opportunity to do so.   For example, if a person with an outstanding warrant gets pulled over for running a stop sign and the police officer determines the person has an outstanding warrant, the officer can arrest the person, take them to jail, and have the car impounded.

Yesterday, people were arrested at their homes, on their way to church, at work, and as they ran errands.  Dallas periodically conducts these warrant roundups to encourage others who have not paid fines related to minor offenses to come forward voluntarily.
Do not let a routine traffic stop turn into a nightmare.  If you receive a ticket for a minor offense, do what is necessary to resolve it or risk having a warrant issued for your arrest.

Dallas criminal defense attorney Tom D'Amore, however, has handled hundreds of cases related to, among other crimes, murder, theft, driving while intoxicated, drug possession and distribution, sex offenses, and domestic violence.  If you have been charged with a crime, contact the D'Amore Law Firm to schedule an appointment for a free case evaluation.
