The Appellate Process

Appellate courts are not like regular courts, and if you choose to file an appeal, there are very strict guidelines that must be followed. First, there is a 30 day time limit after the conviction during which you can file an appeal. If you were convicted of a federal crime, you only have 10 days to retain an appellate attorney. Second, most appeals do not actually go over the details of the case, but instead review the court actions and whether or not procedure was properly followed.
