Dallas Appeals Attorney
Appellate Cases in the Dallas Court System
If you have been convicted of a crime in a Texas court, and you would like to fight the verdict, an attorney with extensive experience with appeals may be able to help. At the D'Amore Law Firm, our attorneys are dedicated to providing justice for our clients and using the appellate courts if there were errors committed during the original trial.
The Appellate Process
Appellate courts are not like regular courts, and if you choose to file an appeal, there are very strict guidelines that must be followed. First, there is a 30 day time limit after the conviction during which you can file an appeal. If you were convicted of a federal crime, you only have 10 days to retain an appellate attorney. If you are even considering appealing your case, you should speak with a Dallas criminal defense attorney immediately. Second, most appeals do not actually go over the details of the case, but instead review the court actions and whether or not procedure was properly followed. If the appellate court decides that errors were made, your attorney then has to make the case that these errors contributed to a wrong verdict.
In some cases, an appeal may not be the best course of action, even if you were convicted unfairly. We can discuss your situation with you and help you determine whether it would be more beneficial and effective for you to file an appeal or file a writ of habeas corpus. Our knowledgeable lawyers work with clients who are appealing all types of criminal cases, including but not limited to those for violent crimes, white collar crimes, federal crimes, and sex crimes.
